The world is gray and getting quickly grayer as more and more things die off. A man and his pre-teen son, who was born after the apocalypse, are currently on the road, their plan to walk to the coast and head south where the man hopes there will be a more hospitable environment in which to live. The man has taught his son that they are the "good people" who have fire in their hearts, which in combination largely means that they will not resort to cannibalism to survive. The man owns a pistol with two bullets remaining, which he will use for murder/suicide of him and his son if he feels that that is a better fate for them than life in the alternative. Food and fuel are for what everyone is looking. The man has taught his son to be suspect of everyone that they may meet, these strangers who, out of desperation, may not only try to steal what they have managed to scavenge for their own survival, but may kill them as food. Although life with his father in this world is all the boy has known, he may come to his own thoughts as to what it means holistically to be one of the good or one of the bad. Meanwhile, the man occasionally has thoughts to happier times with his wife/the boy's mother before the apocalypse, as well as not as happy times with her after the apocalypse and the reason she is no longer with them. Kaguya hime no monogatari movie. Kaguya-hime no monogatari eng sub. The famous Japanese movie production company 'Studio Ghibli' is known mostly for Hayao Miyazaki's film resume that ranges from 'Spirited Away' to 'The Wind Rises. Studio Ghibli continues to put out beautiful and important animated films that not only tell an amazing story, but it also touches on several political, religious, and societal issues that are relevant all over the world. And Miyazaki's films have conjured up a large global audience that has developed into a cult following that is bigger than ever today.
But this film 'The Tale of Princess Kaguya' is not a Miyazaki film. Instead, this is an Isao Takahata film and is not your typical Japanese animated film that has sleek CG animated effects or female characters that dress in next to nothing. 'Princess Kaguya' is a 137 minute film that is 100% hand drawn and is a story from the 10th century, which is called 'The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. Many people say that this is one of the first if not the first science fiction story ever thought up. And when I say science-fiction, I'm not insinuating aliens, space ships or far off planets with lasers. Instead, this wonderful story starts out with a middle aged man and his wife who live a quiet life in the mountains.
This man is a bamboo cutter, who uses bamboo for food, shelter, baskets, and clothing. While working in the bamboo field, he notices a strange glow from one of the bamboo trees. When he investigates, he notices a little seedling that is rapidly growing. In it is a tiny little person who is alive. He takes this small person back to his wife where it transforms into a baby girl, who grows very fast too. The bamboo cutter and his wife think that heaven sent her down to Earth to become the most beautiful princess there ever was. As she grows up fast, her parents collect gold and fine clothing from the magical bamboo tree, which he has a giant palace in the city built for her.
The bulk of this long movie shows this magical princess growing up and adjusting to her new wealthy and powerful life. Her father hires a teacher to instruct her on how to be a proper lady and princess, but the princess would rather laugh, dance, play in the fields, and sing than live a life of boredom in 10th century Japan. In addition to this being one of the first science-fiction stories, it also has a lot of feministic and women's rights qualities to it, which is always great to see.
Another big part of the story has five of the wealthiest and powerful men in Japan vying for her love and marriage, to which she has never met any of them. She sends each of them on impossible tasks to prove their love for her, but it's really a ploy to see if they truly care about her or if they just want her as a piece of property. One of the overall story arcs is the love between the princess and a young boy she was friends with when they were little, where their paths cross rarely throughout the course of this movie, but their love is still binding them together, even they are so far away.
This PG family friendly film might be too slow for most, where as anime buffs might take a stronger liking to it, but as the ending draws closer, the more bizarre the film gets, taking you out of the whole point of the story. The best parts are towards the beginning of the film, watching the princess grow up. It has such a wonderful and carefree charm about it that should make you smile. The animation is beautiful and simple and wonderfully colored. It's a real treat to see something illustrated fully by hand without the use of computers these days. The 137 minute run time is a bit long and could have played out better as a mini series, as this film is fairly episodic, but none-the-less, it's an excellent piece of animation and a great story. I just think it got away from itself from time to time and took too long to tell.

Sheeran co-penned the song with Snow Patrol guitarist Johnny McDaid in a hotel room in Kansas. The pair wrote together while Sheeran supported the band on the North American leg of the band's Fallen Empires Tour in 2012. Five of the tunes they penned made it onto x, (six on the deluxe version). Sheeran recalled the story of the song during a Spotify track by track: "He (McDaid) had a loop of this piano piece just going on and on. I was sat on the floor making a Lego X-Wing Fighter to give to his sister for a charity auction and this piano loop keeps playing, and I start singing a line and the song kind of unraveled from there. We sat for about four hours, me making Lego, and him on the laptop, just building stuff and then I picked up a guitar and we properly structured it. " Sheeran described this cut about the pain of love when you're separated from your sweetheart to The Daily Telegraph as his "collateral" song. "If the rest of the album is s--t we can sell it on this one, " he explained. Ed Sheeran thought he wrote "Photograph" on 6th Street in Denver, Colorado, so he got a tattoo saying "6 ST. " But when he returned to the location, he learned that the street was actually 6th Avenue. The Emil Nava directed music video features footage taken from old family home movies of Ed Sheeran. The clip takes viewers on a journey through the singer's life from a tiny baby and a little kid playing various instruments to a teenager on his guitar and the present day performing in front of huge crowds. Sheeran told Billboard magazine why he chose to go down such a personal route for the video. "A couple of reasons, I had no time to shoot an actual video, and two I was sitting at home at Christmas and my dad had found all the old footage and had it turned into DVDs for our Christmas present and we were looking through them and I thought 'that's amazing stuff, " he explained. "We were making a big documentary and so I asked if I could use some of that, and then looking at it I thought this could work for a music video as it was going chronologically so it's cool. " The song features on the soundtrack of the romantic drama movie Me Before You. The film is based on the best-selling book by Jojo Moyes. The two songwriters who penned UK X Factor season 10 winner Matt Cardle's 2011 track " Amazing " sued Ed Sheeran for allegedly lifting their melody, rhythm and more for this song. Martin Harrington and Thomas Leonard claimed in their lawsuit that "the songs' similarities reach the very essence of the work. " The pair added the choruses of both tracks share 39 identical notes, "in pitch, rhythmic duration and placement in the measure. " The lawsuit continued: "The similarities go beyond substantial, which is itself sufficient to establish copyright infringement, and are in fact striking. The similarity of words, vocal style, vocal melody, melody, and rhythm are clear indicators, among other things, that 'Photograph' copies 'Amazing. '" Ed Sheeran came to an agreement over the lawsuit with Harrington and Leonard in early April 2017. Australian singer Jessica Mauboy covered this for The Secret Daughter: Songs from the Original TV Series, the soundtrack to the 2016 Australian miniseries of the same name. The LP debuted at #1 on the Australian ARIA Albums Chart.

The movie is just as messy as Truth or Dare but I could see it younger crowd liking it (it's fun with attractive cast, high concept and PG-13 rating). There is a chance that it will pull 20M during its opening weekend imo. level 2 Don’t forget Spongebob and Top Gun 2 as well. level 1 This is the craziest timeline. I’m so happy for the blue blur so far! Hoping it maintains some good momentum through walk ups. level 1 Nah it’s painful Birds of Prey isn’t doing well, WB should have probably reworked the screenplay to be a gritty, depressing, pretentious “character study” that rips off takes “inspiration” from old Kubrick movies and hired Judd Apatow to direct and changed the title to “Harleen”, it would’ve definitely been doing crazy numbers then! level 2 I didn't see the movie (and I have no interest in watching a CAM copy), but I think having a PG-13 rating would've helped immensely. Twelve-year old teens will find a way to get into R-rated Deadpool, but teen girls aren't as savvy or wouldn't even bother. level 1 -53% is a good drop for BOP, but no consolation considering its terrible OW. level 1 I reckon Parasite will go higher than 3. 9, the weekday grosses have been extremely good level 1 Not really sure why this sub was so delighted by BoP flopping but is really hoping for sonic to be a success, actually I do know why lmao level 2 Because they're both unexpected results. level 2 Worst part is that the sonic movie is almost definitely shit lol level 1 BoP on track with my 62M President Day (55-57M after second weekend) level 1 What great drops for Jumanji still and awesome jumps for Parasite.

This is my brothers favourite prayer now its mine as well 😍😍❤️❤️❤️. Love at first hear <3. The photograph movie cast. Absolutely beautiful music. The photograph. Boy, this is just great to enjoy. The photographer of mauthausen movie. The photographer 2020. Amo essa música ❣️. This picture, the earliest known photograph to include a recognizable human form, was taken in Paris, France, in 1838 by Louis Daguerre. The human in question is standing in the bottom-left of the photograph, on the pavement by the curve in the road.  He is having his boots shined. The exposure time for the image was around seven minutes, and although the street would have been busy with traffic and pedestrians, it appears deserted. Everything moving was too fast to register on the plate. The exception is the man at the lower-left who sat still long enough to appear in the photograph. The person cleaning his boots is also visible, although not as distinctly. It has been speculated that instead of a shoeshine boy, the man stood at a a pump. However, comparison with another image taken by Daguerre of the same spot at noon reveals boxes used to hold brushes and polishes. Like every Daguerreotype — the first publicly announced photographic process, and named after Daguerre — the photograph was a mirror image.  Here is the image reversed back to show the view as Daguerre saw it: The street is the Boulevard du Temple, part of a fashionable area of shops, cafés and theaters. It was nicknamed the "Boulevard du Crime" because of the many crime melodramas playing in its theaters. It later lost many of these when Baron Haussmann, under the instructions of Napoleon III, remodeled and modernized Paris, removing the narrow, dark and dangerous streets of the medieval city and replacing them with parks and open spaces. This process began in 1853. While the man having his boots shined and the person doing the shining are the most recognizable human figures, a very detailed examination of the photograph reveals other possible people:.

Making its theatrical debut on March 12, 1988, Char's Counterattack is the culmination of the original saga begun in Mobile Suit Gundam and continued through Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, marking the final conflict of the fourteen-year rivalry between the characters Amuro Ray and Char Aznable. In addition to being the first original Gundam theatrical release, Char's Counterattack was also the first Gundam production to make use of computer graphics during a five-second shot of the Sweetwater colony rotating in space, being made at Toyo Links. Char's Counterattack was released in America on DVD on August 20, 2002 and was broadcast on January 4, 2003 on Adult Swim. Plot [ edit] In UC 0093 (2193 A. D. ), Char Aznable has returned to lead Neo Zeon. As the film opens, Char’s forces have arranged to drop the asteroid Fifth Luna on the Earth. Special task force Londo Bell, whose members include veteran soldiers Amuro Ray and Bright Noa, attempt to prevent the catastrophe. Char is successful and the asteroid crashes into Lhasa, Tibet. Earth Federation Prime Minister Adenaur Paraya and his teenage daughter Quess narrowly escape the crashing asteroid. Their space shuttle meets with Londo Bell’s command ship, the Ra Cailum, which has just finished collecting Amuro’s new mobile suit, the RX-93 Nu Gundam, and Amuro’s close friend Chan Agi. The Nu Gundam is equipped with new “psycho-frame” technology, which amplifies Newtype abilities. Bright is reunited with his young son Hathaway, who was also on the escaping shuttle. Adenaur instructs Bright to deliver him to the colony Londenion for some important business. While onboard, Quess becomes smitten with Amuro, and Hathaway develops a crush on Quess. On the Londenion colony, Adenaur’s business is revealed to be a secret meeting with Char and other Neo Zeon leaders to arrange a treaty; the Neo Zeon will gain the asteroid Axis in exchange for disarming their fleet. While relaxing on the colony with Quess and Hathaway, Amuro recognizes Char and confronts him. Overhearing the two men argue, Quess becomes enamored of Char’s philosophies and leaves the colony with him, much to Hathaway’s distress. Quess turns out to be a Newtype and a naturally talented mobile suit pilot. Char takes advantage of her unstable nature and manipulates her feelings to use her as a weapon against Amuro. Char reveals that the treaty with the Federation is a ruse. The Neo Zeon forces ambush the Federation fleet at the supposed disarmament, and Axis is sent on a collision course with the Earth. Londo Bell attempts to stop the asteroid using Axis’ stockpile of nuclear weapons, but only succeeds in splitting the asteroid into two pieces. A furious battle between Londo Bell, the Federation, and Neo Zeon erupts. Quess descends into madness and violence while piloting the psycho-frame-equipped mobile armor Alpha Azieru. Hathaway steals a mobile suit and futilely tries to convince Quess to stop fighting and come with him. Chan kills Quess to protect Hathaway from the girl’s insane attacks but is herself killed by Hathaway in a rage over Quess’s death. Amuro and Char duel in their psycho-frame mobile suits, the Nu Gundam and MSN-04 Sazabi, and Amuro defeats his long-time rival. With Char’s escape pod in tow, Amuro desperately attempts to push back the descending Axis asteroid, aided by Federation and Zeon suits alike. The power of the Nu Gundam’s psycho-frame amplifies Amuro’s Newtype abilities to an unbelievable level. Amuro, Char, and the Nu Gundam vanish in a massive flare of light as both halves of Axis are pushed away from the Earth. Production and development [ edit] Yoshiyuki Tomino adapted Char's Counterattack from the novel Hi-Streamer (which was published in two versions), and wrote Beltorchika's Children as an alternate version. Tomino had planned previously to feature Char's return in Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, however when he got the green light to do Char's Counterattack, he dropped the planned appearance. Tomino does not recall his plans to bring back Char in Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. [ citation needed] The Beltorchika's Children' s differences from the movie include Amuro and Char piloting advanced versions of the ν-Gundam and the Sazabi: the Hi-ν-Gundam and the MSN-04-II Nightingale, Z Gundam character Beltorchika Irma being pregnant with Amuro's child, Hathaway accidentally killing Quess instead of Chan, and the confirmed deaths of Amuro and Char. [2] The film made its American debut on August 20, 2002 on DVD and was later re-released during Sunrise's release of its One Year War properties (specifically Mobile Suit Gundam, 08th MS Team, 0080, and 0083). As part of the 40th anniversary celebration of the Gundam franchise, Char's Counterattack played in select theaters in the U. S. on December 5, 2019. [3] Home media [ edit] Bandai released a DVD of the movie on August 20, 2002. [4] The product was a maroon slipcase edition embossed with the gold Neo Zeon logo. The DVD was later reissued as part of the Anime Legends line in 2006. Due to the closure of Bandai Entertainment, the movie has been out of print for sometime. On October 11, 2014 at their 2014 New York Comic-Con panel, Sunrise announced they will be releasing all of the Gundam franchise, including Gundam SEED: Special Edition in North America though distribution from Right Stuf Inc., beginning in Spring 2015. [5] By 2008, the film had sold 300, 000 units on DVD. [1] Game [ edit] Bandai produced a Char's Counterattack 3D fighting game for the PlayStation in 1998 as part of the Big Bang Project for Gundam's 20th anniversary. The game featured scenes from the film that were remade with updated animation and CGI. The game also has stages featuring Amuro and Char's classic encounters in the original Mobile Suit Gundam series. Toys/Models [ edit] A line of Gunpla models based on the movie's mobile suits was released, along with a Hobby Japan special. The model line had 1/144 kits of the Jegan, the Geara Doga, the Sazabi, [6] Gyunei Guss and Quess Paraya's Jagd Dogas, and the ν-Gundam (with or without Fin Funnel), a 1/550 α-Azieru, and a 1/100 ν-Gundam. Bandai would re-release them plus the Hi-ν-Gundam and a heavy weapons version of the ν-Gundam, years later as part of the HGUC and Master Grade lines, the latter being featured in Bandai's Gundam Weapons line of mooks (modelling books). Many of them are also available as part of the B-Club resin line. In 2011, a model kit manufacturer in China, MCModel, produced 1/144 scale kits of the ν-Gundam and Hi-ν-Gundam called "Gundooms" that are reportedly much more detailed than the same kits from Bandai based on their origins as retooled versions of resin conversion kits. Another company, Regulation Center, later followed suit with a 1/100 Nightingale kit. Bandai's special museum contained a 1/100 prototype of the Nightingale; the company went public at the 2014 Shizuoka Hobby Show with the announcement of a new RE/100 category of scale models, with the Nightingale as the first release in September 2014. [7] Veteran mechanical designer Hajime Katoki redesigned the MG version of the Sazabi, resulting in a slightly blockier appearance more suitable for modeling. [8] Due to the substantial size and heft, it is one of the most expensive 1/100th-scale Master Grade kits yet manufactured, trumped only by the enormous Perfect Zeong kit, released in 2004. [9] The ν-Gundam, Hi-ν-Gundam, and Sazabi would be released as part of Katoki's VerKA line of redesigned Gunpla model kits, their most noticeable design cues being splitting panels designed to show off the psycoframe in the Nu Gundam, and the internal frame structure in the Sazabi. The ν-Gundam and Sazabi [10] were the first offerings in Bandai's "Formania" line of extensively detailed machine busts in September 2010. Some of the movie's units were also released as action figures, with the RX-93 and the Sazabi produced in various forms, the latest of which being under the Robot Spirits line. Bandai, in particular, produced an online-exclusive RX-93 equipment set featuring a second set of Fin-Funnels [11] and a Fin-Funnel equipment set that includes effect parts to recreate the ν-Gundam's beam pyramid. [12] A version of the ν-Gundam produced for the Taiwanese market has a special psycho-frame effect where parts of the body are molded in crystal green. Bandai released the Hi-ν in early 2014 and is slated to release the unit as part of the Metal Robot Spirits line, a version of regular Robot Spirits figures with diecast metal parts. The turned A (∀) is the mathematical symbol of Universal Quantification. In predicate logic, a universal quantification is a type of quantifier, a logical constant which is interpreted as given any or for all. It expresses that a propositional function can be satisfied by every member of a domain of discourse. The Black History becoming the Correct Century being the propositional function in this case, and the Gundam series in its entirety being the domain of discourse. I.E. you can substitute any Gundam series timeline (as a member of the domain of discourse) into the Black History, and end up with the Correct Century.

Seeing him enter the Gun-pla store, it kind of reminds me of walking in to a Warhammer store. All those options, and an enthusiastic nerd trying to decide what would be best for you to play. I really loved the sazabi, so much so that it was my first gunpla model. I don't really like the movie, however. While other animes like zeta can get away with stupid characters because of the longterm investment, this short movie had so many unlikeable characters IMO. It would have been great as a fleshed out anime, and if so I'd probably like quess and Hathaway. But as it stands as a standalone movie, it was so terrible for me. This could have been an awsome prequel to IBO if this was a series. Me and the boys being the only ones at the theatre getting stupid excited when Amuro and Char fight.

Even all these years later, her voice sends glorious chills through my body. Just seeing how everyone was secretly (some openly) laughing, and mocking her then eyes wide as she sings. I want to meet a woman who looks at me like Anne Hathaway looks at Hugh Jackman. 13:02 At the End of the Day. Greetings again from the darkness. Being the new student in school can be an emotionally trying experience for some kids. Now take that pressure and put it in a patrol car for law enforcement in a tough part of town where racial and religious tensions are always on edge. The 'new kid' in this case isn't a kid, but rather an adult cop. and the experience will eclipse 'trying' and shift directly to life-altering. "Ever since 2005. is a line that reminds us that the Paris riots of that year remain fresh in the minds of locals, and police harassment is applied to most every stop or interrogation. This is an area that has yet to reclaim balance and writer-director Ladj Ly, having grown up in this part of the city, is more qualified than anyone to tell these stories.
Montfermeil is the Paris suburb where Victor Hugo wrote his classic 1862 novel "Les Miserables. Recently divorced Stephane (played by Damian Bonnard) has transferred to the Anti-Crime Squad (ACS) in the area to be closer to his young son. His first day on the new job involves riding on patrol with local officers Chris and Gwada, who are veterans of these streets. Chris (played by Alexis Manenti) is a racist, hardened by the locals who have nicknamed him "Pink Pig. Chris's intimidation methods are old school and iron-fisted. Gwada (played by Djebril Zonga) is an African-Muslim who tries to capitalize on his own roots with locals, even though they now consider him a traitor.
Immediately obvious is the fact that Stephane's 'by-the-book' approach doesn't meld with the forceful posture assumed by Chris and Gwada. "Greaser" is the nickname Chris gives to Stephane, emphasizing that the new cop doesn't fit on the streets or in the patrol car. As the prime example of how this environment can cause a small situation to escalate quickly due to one wrong word or movement, a young thief named Issa takes a lion cub from a travelling circus as a prank. The next thing we know, the Muslim Brotherhood is involved and threats are flooding every interaction, creating tensions for all. When the cops finally track down Issa, an accident occurs that further escalates the tensions between various street factions and the cops. Things get really ugly when it's discovered a young boy captured the event with his drone.
Director Ly opens on citywide excitement at the 2018 World Cup with a backdrop of Paris sites such as The Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe. The script from Ly and co-writers Giordano Gederlini and Alexis Manenti doesn't allow us to wallow in the happiness for long. Soon, we are on the streets with the cops in Victor Hugo's (and Ly's) setting - contemporary only in look, not feel or substance. We are dropped into an environment where each moment is dictated by racial-social-political lines. Foot chases, car chases, and confrontations are de rigeur. Disenchantment cloaks kids and adults alike, and the fear of anarchy never wanes. A bad day for Issa turns into maybe the worst ever first day for Stephane. This is one of the year's most incredibly tense and gripping films, and one that leaves us exhausted and dumbfounded. It's a brilliant work.

Without him, the world around me changes.

XD.

I love this so much. He goes through a bunch of the stages of grief in just one scene.

Hong Kong people sang this on their protest. The saddest thing is that even when Cosette was mistreated, there was always someone who loved her more than anything. Eponine never had that type of love. Having seen Colm Wilkinson in the original Broadway production and Lea Salonga as Eponine in 1993, the film version is disappointing. Samantha Barks as Eponine was tolerable, Russell Crowe as Javert was painful. I know that everybody did their best, but the movie was mediocre. [Putlocker-HD] Watch! Movie Online Full and Free [2018. Omg when did they film this in Paris and why wasnt I there 😭.

Even the Gays walked out of this! What a HORROR. Imagine hundreds of people doing this but in assassins creed unity. The game takes place in France. The people wear the exact same clothing in the game. It's perfect. And if i am correct this is about the French revolution. As is assassins creed unity. That intro. I listen to this absolute tune in the gym, such a powerful song. France before pants Marius God get it together.

How about Debra Monk - FAB.

  • description=Although Clarence Thomas remains a controversial figure, loved by some, reviled by others, few know much more than a few headlines and the recollections of his contentious confirmation battle with Anita Hill. Yet, the personal odyssey of Clarence Thomas is a classic American story and should be better known and understood. His life began in extreme poverty in the segregated South, and moved to the height of the legal profession, as one of the most influential justices on the Supreme Court. Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own Words tells the Clarence Thomas story truly and fully, without cover-ups or distortions. The documentary will open in movie theaters nationally on January 31, 2020, followed by a national broadcast on PBS in May 2020. Educational use is forthcoming

Clarence Thomas looked like and old ruthless hound dog. Thomas is a TRAITOR see for yourself go to. I feel a connection to Julian Bond and his legacy at making this country and particularly my community better for people of all kinds, especially people like myself. On the other hand, I'm extremely disappointed and feel saddened that Clarence Thomas, who has such a story to tell and has the ability to do so much for equality and justice, that he won't do so for people like myself. He won't apply stand on principle for equal justice among gay and lesbian Americans. So, that connection is lost.

Well its am ABSOLUTELY WORTH WATCH MOVIE. Free stream created equal: clarence thomas in his own wordswn words. | Posted: Nov 16, 2019 12:01 AM The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of There’s a moment in the new Clarence Thomas documentary, “Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own Words, ” following the harrowing confirmation hearing that saw the gentle man, loving husband, and legal genius from Pin Point, Ga., accused of sexual harassment and smeared as a lecherous monster, that sticks with you long after the 2-hour film ends. It’s the look Thomas has on his face at his swearing-in ceremony. He’s not elated by the prospect of joining the Supreme Court. He looks tired and maybe more than a little concerned for his safety. And it’s an indictment of the people  — one of the most prominent in the person of then-Senator Joe Biden who came across as something of a grand inquisitor — who put Thomas through what he called at the time a “high-tech lynching for uppity blacks. ” "This is a circus. It is a national disgrace. And from my standpoint, as a black American, as far as I am concerned, it is a high-tech lynching for uppity-blacks who in any way deign to think for themselves, to do for themselves, to have different ideas, and it is a message that, unless you kow-tow to an old order, this is what will happen to you, you will be lynched, destroyed, caricatured by a committee of the U. S. Senate, rather than hung from a tree. " Filmmaker Michael Pack conducted hundreds of hours of interviews with Thomas and his wife Virginia to create this stunning documentary, which will see a wide release in May 2020 on PBS. And while it covers Thomas’ impoverished upbringing in Pin Point and later Savannah, Ga., as well as his college days as a left-wing angry social justice revolutionary, it is most moving when it covers those days of the Anita Hill allegations when Thomas’ opportunity to sit on the highest court in the land was very nearly stripped from him by allegations he still unequivocally denies. In his 2008 memoir, “My Grandfather’s Son” — a grandfather that is a looming presence over the film and, indeed, everything Thomas does — the Justice known for his quiet analysis (which he says is part of judicial philosophy that rejects the idea of judicial activism) recounts that by the end of the confirmation hearing he no longer cared about being a Supreme Court Justice. He cared only about fighting back. "I didn’t care whether I ever sat on the Supreme Court, but I wasn’t going to let what little my family and I had cobbled together to be so wantonly smashed. My enemies wanted nothing more than for me to go quietly. I, on the other hand, owed it to my family and the memory of my grandparents and forebears not to self-destruct but to confront them with the truth. " It’s a sentiment now Supreme Court Justice Bret Kavanaugh repeated at his own hearing where, he, too, was confronted with what were surely drummed up charges of sexual impropriety intended to smear him and ruin his life. “You may defeat me in the final vote, but you’ll never get me to quit, ever, ” Kavanaugh said. Which is to say the Democrats’ dirty tricks haven’t changed in 30 years.  And the real shame of it all is that, as “Created Equal” showcases, Thomas had been through more than most in order to overcome his challenges to find himself on the threshold of a SCOTUS seat. He should have been rejoicing in his achievement. Instead, as he told Pack in the film, he feels now about being on the Court exactly the same as he did when he was confirmed. “Whoop-dee-doo, ” Thomas says in the film, without a hint of a smile behind his eyes. Perhaps the ability to remain unaffected by the glamor of the position makes Thomas a better Justice. It likely does. It almost certainly keeps his attention on the cases at hand and on his own interpretation of them as a constitutional “originalist. ” But it’s a little heartbreaking that this is what the politics of personal destruction, led by liberals and progressives, do to the good men of this country. Fortunately, there’s much more to Thomas’ story, happier anecdotes about meeting his wife and making his grandfather proud, that shine through in Pack’s film.  But that look on his face at his swearing-in ceremony stays with you long after the film ends. Story highlights High court's lone African-American justice ruled against civil rights pillar Conservative majority's decision strikes at heart of 1965 Voting Rights Act Questions about Clarence Thomas persist even after two decades on the Supreme Court Among them: Why does he condemn affirmative action if he benefited from it? He wore a black beret and Army fatigues, warned people that a revolution was coming and memorized the speeches of Malcolm X. "I now believed that the whole of American culture was irretrievably tainted by racism, " he once said, describing his reaction to the assassination of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. On Tuesday, that same man helped dismantle a key provision of the Voting Rights Act, one of the pillars of the civil rights movement. If he had his way, he would bury another pillar: affirmative action. There may seem to be a contradiction between the Clarence Thomas who was the angry campus radical in the 1960s and the conservative hero who sits on the U. S. Supreme Court today. But some legal observers say Thomas sees himself as a "prophetic civil rights leader" who is still fighting for the same cause -- a colorblind America. "A lot of people who are what I call professional Negros have ridden white guilt and socialism to very lucrative lives, " says Holzer, who uses the term "Negro" because he says he doesn't classify people by skin color. "Thomas didn't, " Holzer says. "He made a very deliberate and gutsy decision to go where his intellect and his study took him, and that's heroic. " One man's hero, though, is another man's sellout. During his nearly 22 years on the nation's highest court, Thomas has been called a self-loathing "Uncle Thomas. " His impact, though, cannot be ignored. His judicial opinions have transformed America. And no other contemporary Supreme Court justice has spoken with such raw emotion about race or has embodied the subject's complexities. Yet he is still a mystery to many. There are questions about Thomas that have persisted even after two decades on the Supreme Court as its lone African-American justice. Here are three of them: Question 1: Why does Thomas condemn affirmative action if he benefited from it? On Monday, the Supreme Court sidestepped a sweeping decisio n on the use of race in college admissions, throwing a Texas case back to the lower courts for further review. The high court had been asked to decide if the University of Texas violated the constitutional rights of some white applicants by considering race in the admissions process. Thomas, in issuing a concurring opinion with the 7-1 majority, left no doubt as to how he would have ruled had the court not found that lower federal courts failed to apply the appropriate standards in the Texas case. "Just as the alleged educational benefits of segregation were insufficient to justify racial discrimination then, " Thomas wrote, "the alleged educational benefits of diversity cannot justify racial discrimination today. " "The university's professed good intentions cannot excuse its outright racial discrimination any more than such intentions justified the now denounced arguments of slaveholders and segregationists. " Thomas has consistently voted against affirmative action policies because he says they're divisive, unconstitutional and harmful to their recipients. He cites his own experience as an example. Thomas was born in poverty in rural Georgia but managed to gain admittance to Yale Law School. He acknowledges that he made it to Yale because of affirmative action but says the stigma of preferential treatment made it difficult for him to find a job after college. In his memoir, "My Grandfather's Son, " Thomas says he felt "tricked" by paternalistic whites at Yale who recruited black students. "I was bitter toward the white bigots whom I held responsible for the unjust treatment of blacks, " he wrote, "but even more bitter toward those ostensibly unprejudiced whites who pretended to side with black people while using them to further their own political and social ends. " Some observers, though, counter with one question: If affirmative action is so bad for its recipients, how come you've done so well? "His entire judicial philosophy is at war with his own biography, " said Michael Fletcher, co-author of "Supreme Discomfort: The Divided Soul of Clarence Thomas. " "He's arguably benefited from affirmative action every step of the way. " For many blacks, affirmative action is "the contemporary equivalent of the Emancipation Proclamation, " Fletcher explains in his book. It's one of the most important legacies of the civil rights movement. The expansion of the black middle class was driven by affirmative action policies, he says. Some blacks detest Thomas not because he's conservative, Fletcher says, but because he rules against affirmative action policies, closing the door that was opened for him. The black community has accepted conservatives as varied as Booker T. Washington, Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice. Many members of the community dislike Thomas for another reason. "Some say he's a traitor and hypocritical, " says Fletcher, an economics correspondent with The Washington Post. Thomas first attracted public attention in the early 1980s when President Ronald Reagan asked him to lead the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which enforces federal discrimination laws. Thomas' opposition to affirmative action and criticisms of civil rights leaders during his tenure made headlines. In 1990, President George H. W. Bush appointed Thomas to the powerful U. Court of Appeals for the D. C. Circuit, a traditional steppingstone to the Supreme Court. Would Thomas have risen so far so quickly had he not been black? CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin doesn't think so. In a biting 2007 New Yorker magazine review of Thomas' memoir, Toobin wrote that Thomas had never tried a case or argued an appeal in any federal court and had never produced any scholarly work when he made the D. appeals court. "Yale and Reagan treated him the same way, but he hates one and reveres the other, " Toobin wrote. "Thomas never acknowledges, much less explains, the contradiction. " When Bush selected Thomas in 1991 to replace Thurgood Marshall, the court's first black justice, the questions about Thomas' qualifications intensified. Bush said he picked "the best qualified" nominee, but Thomas questioned that in his memoir, saying even he had doubts about Bush's "extravagant" claim. "There was no way I could really know what the president and his aides had been thinking when they picked me, " he wrote. Thomas' defenders say his performance on the high court has removed any doubts about his qualifications. They call him the most consistent conservative on the court, a man who won't sacrifice his principles to eke out a short-term judicial victory. Holzer, author of "The Supreme Court Opinions of Clarence Thomas, " says he doesn't think Thomas "benefited from affirmative action at all. " Thomas' legal acumen is well-known, says Holzer, a retired law professor from Brooklyn Law School. Thomas is the court's leading "originalist" -- he says he interprets the Constitution based on what the framers meant, not on any partisan policy preferences. "This may be hard for Toobin to swallow -- Clarence Thomas would have been appointed were he white, yellow, brown, beige, even blue or green. " Scott Douglas Gerber, an Ohio Northern University law professor and author of "First Principles: The Jurisprudence of Clarence Thomas, " says Thomas is on the verge of cementing his judicial legacy with the civil rights cases before the court. Thomas' constitutional philosophy is simple, Gerber says: All Americans should be treated as individuals and not as members of a racial or ethnic group. Gerber says Thomas has ruled against the Voting Rights Act in the past because he believes that laws based on the "proportional allocation of political powers according to race" should be overturned. The Voting Rights Act is considered one of the crown jewels of the civil rights movement. Its passage, which came about after King led a dramatic campaign in Selma, Alabama, is responsible for the expansion of black political power in the last 30 years. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court's conservative majority issued a ruling that essentially strikes at the heart of the Voting Rights Act. The court voted 5-4 to limit the use of a key provision in the landmark law, in effect invalidating federal enforcement over all or parts of 15 states with a past history of voter discrimination. Thomas isn't the only Supreme Court justice whose life has been shaped by affirmative action. One of his colleagues is grateful for the role it played in her life. Sonia Sotomayor told "60 Minutes" that affirmative action helped her gain admittance to Princeton University. (She also graduated from Yale Law School. ) She is the first Hispanic justice on the Supreme Court. "It was a door-opener that changed the course of my life, " Sotomayor said in the January interview. Question 2: How does Thomas embrace an "originalist" view of the Constitution when the framers would have considered him a slave? A lot of originalist judges rhapsodize about the wisdom of the Constitution's framers, but Thomas approaches the Constitution with a different racial history. Blacks were enslaved by many of the founding fathers who talked about liberty and freedom. How does a black judge become an originalist when the "original intent" of the Constitution was to preserve slavery and classify slaves as three-fifths of a human being? Thomas addressed that question in part in one of his most cited opinions, a 2007 school integration case, Parents Involved in Community Schools v. Seattle School District No. 1. Thomas joined a conservative majority that ruled 5-4 that race cannot be a factor in assigning children to public schools. In a concurring opinion, Thomas cited one of the Supreme Court's greatest judges, John Marshall Harlan, known as the "great dissenter. " Harlan issued a thunderous dissent in the notorious 1896 Plessy v. Ferguson case, which sanctioned the separate but equal doctrine that provided the legal foundation for the brutal Jim Crow era. Plessy is considered one of the high court's lowest moments. Thomas invoked another landmark Supreme Court decision, the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education ruling, which declared segregated schools and the separate-but-equal doctrine of Plessy unconstitutional. Thomas wrote in the Seattle decision: "My view of the Constitution is Justice Harlan's view in Plessy: 'Our Constitution is colorblind, and neither knows nor tolerates classes among citizens. ' And my view was the rallying cry for the lawyers who litigated Brown. " Thomas embraces an originalism that is rooted in the principles of the founders rather than their practices, wrote Hannah L. Weiner, author of an article in the Duke Law Journal on Thomas titled "The Next Great Dissenter. " Weiner said Thomas believes that history will hail him as a "prophetic leader of civil rights" who honored the civil rights movement by fighting for its ultimate goal: a colorblind America. "He says the same framers who saw him as three-fifths of a man wrote the Declaration of Independence that allowed us to dream of having a President Obama in the White House, " says the Post's Fletcher. Marcia Coyle, author of the "The Roberts Court, " a look at the contemporary court's battle over the Constitution, says Thomas believes that Reconstruction -- a brief period after the Civil War when the federal government strove to make full citizens of freed slaves -- purified the Constitution. "He believes the Reconstruction amendments purged the Constitution of the taint of slavery and rendered the Constitution colorblind, " says Coyle, who provides Supreme Court analysis for the "PBS NewsHour. " The Reconstruction amendments are the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments. They abolish slavery, empower newly freed slaves and protect their right to vote. For anyone who follows matters of race in America, the 14th Amendment is vital. The amendment, with its emphasis on equality, has become the epicenter of a fierce legal battle over what the Constitution says about race. Thomas and other conservative judges believe the 14th Amendment bans any preferential treatment of minorities because the Constitution is colorblind. It doesn't matter if a person is white, black or green, they say, dividing people up by race is unconstitutional. They cite Harlan's "colorblind" dissent in Plessy in which he invoked the 14th Amendment. Others say judges such as Thomas are engaging in clever semantics, commandeering language that was originally used to help racial minorities to argue for policies that now exclude them. Doug Kendall, founder and president of the Constitutional Accountability Center in Washington, says Thomas is a "faux" originalist who ignores the "original intent" of the 14th Amendment framers who were trying to create laws to address the legacy of slavery. "They were the first proponents of affirmative action, " Kendall says of the Reconstruction amendment lawmakers. "They passed a whole series of laws that were designed to help the freed slaves realize the promise of being a full and equal citizen in the U. " But Gerber, the Ohio Northern University law professor, says Thomas bases his originalist vision in the Declaration of Independence. "He knows that most of the framers were racists, " says Gerber. "He rejects those personal practices but as (Abraham) Lincoln pointed out, the framers committed the nation to the idea of equality that is articulated in the Declaration. " Question 3: Why doesn't Thomas follow his own advice about not playing the victim? When he worked for the Reagan administration, Thomas once told a reporter that all civil rights leaders did was "bitch, bitch, bitch, moan and moan, whine and whine. " Thomas has long preached that blacks should be self-reliant and stop complaining about racism. He traces that philosophy to his childhood in Georgia, where he was raised by a stern grandfather who told him he had to "play the hand" fate dealt him. "I'd long believed that the best thing to do was to stop government-sanctioned segregation, then concentrate on education and equal employment opportunities, " he wrote in his memoir. "The rest I thought would take care of itself. " Yet critics say Thomas doesn't follow his own advice. They say he regularly portrays himself as a victim even though he sits on the nation's highest court. Fletcher called him "the most successful victim in America. " He says Thomas holds grudges against old college classmates, black critics and "elites. " He often equates his plight to that of slaves when he compares critics to "overseers" and talks about blacks who expect him to be an "intellectual slave. " "He has a lot of slights that he catalogs carefully throughout his life, " Fletcher says. Slights against the U. Supreme Court also affect Thomas. While speaking to a bar association in Georgia in 2011, Thomas said critics of the Supreme Court's decisions were illiterate or lazy. "You don't just keep nagging and nagging and nagging, " he told the Augusta Bar Association. "Sometimes, too much is too much. " Thomas recently used an occasion of great joy for the black community -- the election of the nation's first black president -- to complain about persecution. When he was asked if he was surprised that a black man became president, he criticized the "elites" and "the media. " "The thing that I always knew is that it would have to be a black president who was approved by the elites and the media, because anybody they didn't agree with, they would take apart, " Thomas said during a C-SPAN interview at a Pittsburgh law school in April. Thomas' behavior at his confirmation hearing in 1991 soured some critics as well. When he was accused of sexual harassment, Thomas publicly told a Senate panel that he was the victim of a "high-tech lynching" reserved for uppity blacks. Thomas flashed the race card to get on the Supreme Court, says George Curry, a commentator, media coach and speaker who once placed Thomas on the cover of a now-defunct black political magazine called Emerge with the title, "Uncle Thomas. " "He used race when it was convenient to him, " Curry says. "That was designed to put an all-white panel on the defensive. " Thomas, though, says it's not persecution if it's real. In his memoir, he wrote about his confirmation hearing: "As a child in the Deep South, I'd grown up fearing the lynch mobs of the Ku Klux Klan; as an adult, I was starting to wonder if I'd been afraid of the wrong white people all along. My worst fears had come to pass not in Georgia but in Washington, D. C., where I was being pursued not by bigots in white robes but by left-wing zealots draped in flowing sanctimony. " Horace Cooper, an attorney and commentator, says Thomas was only telling the truth when he invoked a "high-tech lynching. " He says many people haven't accepted that Thomas isn't the liberal crusader they think the successor to Marshall, the court's first black justice, should be. "The law isn't about helping oppressed and downtrodden people get justice in a system tilted against them, " says Cooper, whose columns appear on, a conservative online magazine. "Justice Thomas has been reminding people that it is not the role of the court to undo unfairness but to literally use the rules: Call a strike a strike and a foul a foul. " Thomas' pugnacious public image doesn't jibe with his personality, others say. He is the warmest and most accessible Supreme Court justice, they say, a man with a booming laugh who mentors young people. In a 1998 address to a group of predominantly African-American lawyers, Thomas showed a more vulnerable side. "It pains me deeply -- more deeply than any of you can imagine -- to be perceived by so many members of my race as doing them harm, " he told the National Bar Association, the nation's largest group of lawyers, during a meeting in Memphis, Tennessee. "All the sacrifice, all the long hours of preparation were to help, not to hurt, " he said. "I have come here today not in anger or to anger. " Thomas' speech was greeted with scattered boos and little applause, news reports say. Thomas' latest decisions may receive the same hostile reaction from his own community. But that won't stop Thomas from issuing his fiery opinions on race, in court and out of it, some say. "It seems as if he's accepted the fact that he's out there alone and he's writing for the future, not today, " says Coyle, author of "The Roberts Court. " The goals of that future aren't that much different from those of the past, Thomas suggests in his memoir. At the end of his book, Thomas wrote that he was visited by Marshall, now considered a civil rights icon, in 1991 shortly after Thomas was confirmed to the court. Thomas tells him he would have marched with civil rights demonstrators if he had the courage. "I did in my time what I had to, " Thomas says Marshall told him. "You have to do in your time what you have to do. " Whether people agree with Thomas or not, one thing is apparent from the direction of this Supreme Court: Thomas is not so alone anymore. This is his time.

Free Stream Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own words to say. Tuesday, February 11, 2020 Details RESERVE YOUR SEATS RIGHT HERE: A superb documentary delivers a measure of justice to an extraordinary justice. Among the most prominent figures in American politics, perhaps none is as poorly understood as Justice Clarence Thomas. Watching him tell his riveting story at length on camera for the first time, it becomes evident that the man has been deeply wronged — maligned, disparaged, written off. Thomas may be the most famously silent public figure since Calvin Coolidge. But he has much to say in Michael Pack’s excellent documentary Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own Words, a measure of long-delayed redress for Thomas’s reputation. Should Thomas remain on the high court until his 80th birthday, as has become common, he would become the longest-serving justice in U. S. history. May he have that last laugh.

Anita Hill should/could have been on the Supreme Court. If Thomas had not sexually harassed her she may have stayed on, had an illustrious career in law and on the bench and we could have been talking about confirming her. In all the discussion about destroying men, the loss and shattered dreams of women is never mourned. Maybe if Louis CK hadnt exposed himself and blackballed female comics, they would be walking into their standing ovations at the comedy cellar too.

Easily one of the finest intellects in American history. Anita Hill's accusations have been discredited multiple times. It was one big lie. I can point back to his autobiography, My Grandfather's Son, as an important point in my world view. I have a high admiration for CT and have given the book to two young men, one black, one white (my son) and am taking my other son to see the move today. Clarence Thomas, arguably the most conservative justice on the U. S. Supreme Court, may be known for his silence on the bench during oral arguments, but now he’s speaking out. In an upcoming documentary, “Created Equal: Clarence Thomas In His Own Words, ” Thomas describes his faith, his political awakening, his judicial philosophy, and the role race has played in his life, offering viewers rare insight into the mind of a justice known for his reticence on the public stage. “‘This is the wrong black guy, he has to be destroyed, '” Thomas says at one point in the film, characterizing those who opposed his nomination to the Supreme Court nomination in 1991. “Just say it. And now at least we’re honest with each other. ” Remembering the moment that Anita Hill’s allegations that he had sexually harassed her were made public, Thomas says, that’s when “all heck broke loose. ” The new documentary, which TIME saw in an intimate advance screening, will be released in 2020 and set to air on PBS in May. It was made by Manifold Productions, which is led by Michael Pack, a conservative filmmaker who has worked with Steve Bannon. President Donald Trump nominated Pack to be the head of the Broadcasting Board of Governors. The film is largely sympathetic to Thomas. On its website, Manifold Productions says the purpose of the movie is to “tell the Clarence Thomas story truly and fully, without cover-ups or distortions. ” Thomas and his wife Virginia are the only people whose interviews appear in the film. (Other voices, including Hill’s, are included in old footage. ) Pack interviewed Thomas for more than 30 hours over a six month period. Speaking after a screening on Oct. 22, he said he worried that including other original interviews would cause him to “lose Justice Thomas’s voice. ” “I felt it would also let viewers make up their own mind, ” Pack says. “My deal with the audience was to let Justice Thomas tell his story and be fair to his story. ” Much of the film addresses the justice’s upbringing, which brought him from poverty in rural Georgia to the highest court in the land, and tracks his personal and political transitions along the way. But a significant section of the movie also revisits Thomas’s contentious confirmation hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee, which was at the time overseen by then-Delaware Senator Joe Biden, who is now running for president. “One of the things you do in hearings is you have to sit there and look attentively at people you know have no idea what they’re talking about, ” Thomas says, in reference to a line of questioning from Biden. “Most of my opponents on the Judiciary Committee cared about only one thing: how would I rule on abortion rights? ” Thomas says. “You really didn’t matter, and your life didn’t matter. What mattered was what they wanted. And what they wanted was this particular issue. ” Since joining the Supreme Court, Thomas has voted repeatedly to roll back abortion rights and has urged the court to reconsider Roe v. Wade and other landmark abortion cases. “Our abortion jurisprudence has spiraled out of control, ” he wrote in 2019. It was after the first round of hearings during which Democratic senators pressed him on his judicial philosophy and abortion that Hill testified that Thomas had sexually harassed her at work. Thomas unequivocally denied each of her allegations then—and he does so again in the documentary. In the film, he recalls feeling “deflated” when the FBI first came to his house and asked him about Hill’s allegations, and describes the ensuing media onslaught as him being “literally under siege. ” “Oh God, no, ” Thomas says when Pack asks him whether he watched Hill’s testimony. Thomas says his experience in the hearings made him realize that he had been expecting a certain type of person—as he described them, the ‘bigot, Klansman, and rural sheriff’—to hold him back over the course of his life. But the confirmation hearing changed his mind. “It turned out that through all of that, ultimately the biggest impediment was the modern day liberal, ” he says. Thomas says he was in the bathtub when the Senate voted on October 15, 1991 to confirm him to the Supreme Court. “My reaction is still pretty much the way it is now, ” Thomas says. “I mean, whoop-dee-damn-doo. I wasn’t really all that interested in it. ” “The idea was to get rid of me, ” Thomas says, describing attempts to derail his nomination. “And then after I was there, it was to undermine me. ” Pack says his on-camera interviews with Thomas ended before Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing in September 2018 when Christine Blasey Ford accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault. But Pack says Thomas had declined to wade into questions about the #MeToo movement over the course of their interviews. Thomas also speaks about the difficulty he says he has experienced being a prominent black conservative. “There’s different sets of rules for different people, ” Thomas says. “If you criticize a black person who’s more liberal, you’re a racist. Whereas you can do whatever to me, or to now [HUD Secretary] Ben Carson, and that’s fine, because you’re not really black because you’re not doing what we expect black people to do. ” Thomas speaks in the film about some of the pillars of his life, including his grandfather who raised him, his religion, and his belief in the principles of the Constitution. He also talks about his judicial philosophy, and why he almost never asks a single question during oral arguments. “We are judges, not advocates, ” Thomas says. “The referee in the game should not be a participant in the game. ” At a low moment in his life, before he becomes a judge, Thomas says he had a reckoning with his purpose and his values. “For what will you die? ” he remembers asking himself. “Is there something in life you would die for? What about your principles? ” Thomas says he decided then that the principles his grandfather raised him with and the principles of this country were worth dying for—and those would shape how he lived. Write to Tessa Berenson at.

President George Bush nominated Clarence Thomas for the Supreme Court to replace Thurgood Marshall, who had retired but those racist whites on Capitol Hill did not want another black judge replacing a black judge. so they concocted a despicable lie about Clarence Thomas.

Posiblemente. No sería mala idea analizarla. -No salga usted -susurró-. No me pregunten mi opinión.
